Culture Across Borders

Ian has served for fifteen years on the board of Face-to-Face, a US 501c3 non-profit. This NGO has operations in Malawi and Cambodia and focuses on educating individuals and communities to rely on themselves and break the cycle of poverty. The two NGOs are based in Cambodia and Malawi and during the pandemic experencied a swift pivot to virtual training and development of community leaders.

Ian will share his own ‘secret sauce’ about assumptions and and predispositions related to gender, respect and listening to ensure trust a well as his adaptive resiliency skills that have been heigthened not only for his Vice President role with Face to Face but also with his Vice Presidency role with People & Organization at North American Partners in Anesthesia. Ian will share his beliefs about immersing yourself in ‘cultures beyond borders’ where there is less privilege and more complexity. Practical examples of developing self efficacy and self determination, like the ‘Victory Gardens Project are showcased in this session.
